Bible Study

Once there was a student who accepted Christ into his life. He was happy at first and noticed some changes in his life. But soon doubts began to creep into his mind, especially as he noticed that he still had struggles in some areas of his life. Doubts would multiply as he would remember some of the wrong things he had done in the past. He would say, “Maybe I’m not forgiven. Do I really have eternal life?”

What do you think was the main cause of this man’s poor relationship with God?

As we can see, this man does not have a correct understanding of his relationship with God. Let’s look at some scripture passages so we can understand our relationship with God better.

1. John 1:11-13 – Our relationship with God is a Father-child relationship.

11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

John 1:11-13

Observation / Interpretation (What does it say and mean?)

a. According to this passage, who is a child of God?

b. What do you think it means to believe?

c. If a person is born into a Christian family, does it make him a Christian?

d. Can a person become a Christian by doing good things, helping others, or attending religious meetings? (Ephesians 2: 8- 9)

Application (What does it mean to me?)

How do you know that you are a child of God?

2. Colossians 2:13-14 – Our relationship with God is one of total forgiveness.

13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.

Colossians 2:13-14

Observation / Interpretation (What does it say and mean?)

a. What are some things God has done with our sins?

b. How many of our sins are forgiven?

Application (What does it mean to me?)

a. Are there any sins that we could commit that are not already paid for?

b. How do you know?

3. John 10:27-30 – Our relationship with God is eternal.

27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”

John 10:27-30

In this passage, when Jesus talks about sheep, He is referring to His followers, Christians.

Observation / Interpretation (What does it say and mean?)

a. What are some promises given by Jesus to them?

b. Why can’t anyone snatch us out of the Father’s hand? (verse 29)

Application (What does it mean to me?)

Can we ever lose our relationship with our Heavenly Father? No. 63

As we have seen, our relationship with our Heavenly Father is secure and permanent.

Training

You will have a chance to practice sharing the Four Spiritual Laws (4SL).

  1. Read the 4SL without extra explanations.

  2. Hold the booklet or mobile device so your partner can see it.

  3. Go slowly.

One of the purposes of the ADG is to help us to have a significant influence in our society by telling others about God’s love and plan for their lives. Today, we will begin to learn how to do this by using the Four Spiritual Laws.

Assignments and Reminders

Pray for an opportunity to share the Four Spiritual Laws with someone and be available for God to use you.
